Capability

Alvis Vickers Limited (AVL) runs an efficient manufacturing organisation with an experienced multi-skilled workforce proficient in the latest techniques in metal cutting fabrication and assembly for one off and volume production quantities.

The latest project management techniques include SAP enterprise management package to control independently varied sized projects to deliver on time within cost.

Technical

The multi station engineering/CAM system has an interactive graphical package capable of programming complex multi axes machined components in two to five axes, connected to machine tools through DNC fibre optic links. Information source files generated on various systems from the aerospace and defence industries can be entered as base data for machine tool operation.

Process

  • Plate profiling by laser/plasma cutting and high-speed routing machines. Fabrication by MIG, TIG, FW and MA welding using manual/automatic processes for ferrous and non ferrous materials.
  • Metal treatment by blast/peen, metal spraying and paint finishing surface coatings.
  • Assembly of mechanical/electronic systems and function testing, including a vehicle test track.

  • Quality

    AVL are accredited by BSI to ISO 9001 and have British Aerospace Airbus approval. The in-house capability includes a material testing laboratory, UCAS accredited and has BS EN 729 welding engineering standard support.

    Alvis Vickers and its subsidiaries have been certified to the ISO 9001:1994 standard for Quality management Systems.

    Newcastle, Wolverhampton and Ridsdale have been awarded the ISO 14001:1996 standard certification for Environmental management Systems.
