Industrial Placements for Students

Student placements are a good opportunity for students to experience working within their degree field whilst studying for their degree. Alvis Vickers Limited is keen to offer industrial training opportunities to undergraduates studying on accredited engineering degrees. Our industrial placement programme starts every July for a twelve month period. Please note that we no longer offer short/vacation placements.

Alvis Vickers Limited has UK facilities at Newcastle, Leeds, Telford and Wolverhampton employing around 1200 people in a range of design projects, manufacturing and commercial engineering positions.

What Does a Student Placement Offer?

Over the twelve-month placement period, students are allocated two or three major projects usually lasting 4 months each. These are likely to be in a range of functions within engineering design, development, test, integration, manufacturing, commercial support or project management. All the projects are live and have real business implications.

The placement programme provides each student with structured objectives against which they will be measured and appropriate supervision for day to day direction, support and performance feedback. The placement programme gives individuals the chance to test out their skills in different areas, discover personal strengths and development needs.

Specific placement destinations depend upon business priorities and the experience held by the student concerned. Training will include on-job practical skill development and real time project work in accordance with professional institution requirements.

Salary

Students on industrial placement can expect to earn 12,275 for their year with Alvis Vickers (effective 1st January 2002).
