Graduate Opportunities

Our graduate intake commences every September. New Graduates participate in a progressive Graduate Development Programme, normally around two years in length, depending upon the extent of previous industrial experience.

Alvis Vickers Limited has UK facilities at Newcastle, Leeds, Telford and Wolverhampton employing around 1200 people in a range of design projects, manufacturing and commercial engineering positions.

Graduate Development Programme

During the course of the development programme, we look to strengthen technical and commercial skills and tune Graduates expertise to best fit a particular job function. We offer a safe working environment to try out a range of tasks and roles within the business and test out your potential, before settling into a permanent post.

Training

The Graduate Development Programme gives each new graduate a personalised rotation placement plan, allowing opportunities to experience the breadth of the business and learn and refine new skills, directly on the job. The challenges are real and you have the chance to work on live engineering/business improvement projects from the outset. This evolves to meet individuals specific needs and achieve our business objectives.

The Programme includes a range of comprehensive training opportunities to equip Graduates with the impact skills and technical depth they need to further their career. Our Learning Resource Centre is a useful computer based learning facility to improve your IT skills on a self help basis.

We believe in giving everyone as much responsibility as they can handle and, with the support of a mentor, line supervisor and regular feedback through performance reviews, encouraging new starters to take an active role in driving forward their careers.

Professional Status

The acquisition of professional qualifications is considered important for our graduate entrants. Individuals will be encouraged to seek chartered engineering or the equivalent professional institution status (CEng, CIPS etc) through continuing professional development or further education at local colleges. An appointed mentor will provide guidance and support through this process.

Salaries & Benefits

Graduate salaries start at 16,368 pa or 17,391 pa (with relevant industrial experience), with six monthly reviews and incremental increases. Salary on completion of the Development Programme: 21,438 (effective 1st January 2002).

We offer a contributory pension scheme, 25 days holiday, and subsidised canteen facilities, sports and social association and a half-day finish on Fridays.

What Happens Next?

Beyond the Development Programme, engineering graduates will be assigned to an engineering project team utilising their skills in design, development, test, integration or manufacturing. Commercial graduates will be assigned to a business support function such as quality assurance, IT, contracts, purchasing, logistic supply, customer support or finance.
